Giving back to our community to help to make it a better place to live, work and enjoy is important to us. The Preferred Insurance team provides community support throughout the year in various ways.

InventNow, is a national nonprofit organization that works to promote creativity and advance the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship in America’s children.
InventNow runs “Camp Invention,” STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) camps all over the country – last summer at 1,400 locations and over 75,000 students. It is a wonderful program that uses fun team building curriculum to help make the experience of learning these important subjects enjoyable. At the end of the week, the kids come up with their own inventions out of discarded TVs and computers and actually receive a play patent. Kids take this enthusiasm back into the classroom; as do the teachers. Camp Invention is conducted in local schools and the tuition is about $220 per student.
In 2013 we were able to raise $17,000. This year we are working to raise $25,000 to provide scholarships for kids who live east of Anacostia to attend a Camp Invention site located in Southeast DC. There is a complete lack of camps inside of our great capital, Washington, DC. All the camp locations are currently in affluent suburbs; with one located in the upper Northwest of the District.
We, along with InventNow, have made it our goal to have a Camp Invention location east of Anacostia in Washington, DC. The kids in this area have to be fully financed by scholarships, because their parents cannot easily write a check for the $220 tuition. It has to be totally funded by donations.
If you would like to contribute, please send a check made out to “InventNow” to 4035 Ridge Top Road, Suite 150, Fairfax VA, 22030, Attention: Pat Sullivan. Your donation is fully tax deductible and the camps are such a wonderful opportunity for kids.
If you would like to learn more about the program, please visit their website at www.campinvention.org.
